Obstetrics and Gynecology
The Kirbo Women's Center
The Kirbo Women’s Center, a beautiful, family-centered obstetrical and gynecological unit, opened in December, 1998, at Memorial Hospital and Manor. This addition provides a birthing experience where labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care take place in a single LDRP room. The 21,000 sq. ft. women’s center is named after the “Thomas M. Kirbo and Irene B. Kirbo Charitable Trust,” which generously contributed to the construction and elegant interior design of the wing. The Kirbo Women’s Center has eight private birthing suites, six private suites for other OB/GYN patients, two nurseries and an operating room for Cesarean Sections. A Level I nursery provides excellent care for newborns in distress, or for those awaiting transfer to another facility with a higher level of care.
A monthly open house and tour of the Kirbo Women's Center are offered to help parents plan for a positive prenatal and birth experience. Contact the Department Manager at 229-243-6135 for a schedule of events.
Lactation consultants are available to assist new moms with breast feeding their newborns.
Prepared childbirth education classes are taught by a certified childbirth educator in the Kirbo Women’s Center classroom to help soon-to-be parents prepare for the birth experience.
