Team Lean 2009 Begins January 8

For anyone serious about losing weight, Team Lean 2009 offers motivation and support to make healthy choices, not just for the 12-week competition, but for life. Tean Lean is a 12-week community weight loss competition sponsored by Memorial Hospital and Manor and the Bainbridge/Decatur County YMCA. Hundreds of people in Bainbridge have lost weight and kept it off after participating in Team Lean 2007 and/or 2008, mainly due to team support and weekly weigh-ins that help participants maintain focus and willpower. The first weigh-in for Team Lean 2009 in Bainbridge will be held from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at the Bainbridge Mall for any teams or individuals interested in losing weight. Registration forms may be turned in at the hospital Gift Shop or faxed to (229) 243-3340, no later than January 6.

Memorial Hospital and Manor Wins "Small Hospital of the Year" Award

Memorial Hospital and Manor was recognized as the best small hospital in the state by the Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals (GACH) during the organization's 2008 annual meeting at Callaway Gardens in October. Memorial Hospital and Manor won GACH's 2008 Hospital of the Year award in the small hospital category (fewer than 150 beds). The Alliance recognized Memorial Hospital and Manor for its outstanding reputation of supporting community health through innovative programs that improve access to medical care for those who are unable to afford it. Perhaps the best example of this hospital's community outreach is a summer camp for disabled children called Camp JOY.

Ileana Popa, M.D., Opens Internal Medicine Practice

Memorial Hospital and Manor is pleased to welcome Ileana Popa, M.D., to its medical staff in the practice of Internal Medicine. Dr. Popa is a native of Romania and received the Doctor of Medicine degree from Carol Davila University of Medicine & Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania. Dr. Popa completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas-Houston Medical School in 2004. Dr. Popa is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She is married to Ovidiu Popa, M.D., an OB/GYN specialist in Bainbridge. Dr. Popa's office is located at 503B Wheat Avenue in Bainbridge (adjacent to Bainbridge Asthma and Allergy Clinic).
